Our Footsteps into Foundation Program is a gentle introduction to primary school activities and gives children a flying start to their first year of school at Brandon Park.

Our 2024 program for 2025 enrolment will start later this year.  Please ensure you have completed and submitted an enrolment form by 26 July and have received an enrolment confirmation for your child from us, in order to participate.

From 2024 onwards, Foundation enrolment will be online. Further details will be provided in due course.

Transitioning Within Our School

Class configuration

After the Foundation year, children in our school transition to single level classes. The focus in these classes is on the developmental needs of the student no matter what their age. Each year, during Term Four, the staff meet to plan the configuration of the following year’s classes.  They review each child’s progress, achievements and challenges, and using a variety of assessment tools and other relevant factors, they make informed recommendations to the Principal about what groupings will work best for each child.

This process is thorough, methodical and considered, and is undertaken with the aim of ensuring that each child is in an appropriate grouping for their ability, social skills etc.

There is often a wide spread of ages within a group, sometimes up to 18 months.  All of our curriculum practices are holistic and child-responsive. We strive to consider the understandings, capabilities and dispositions that children need for future work, e.g. working in diverse environments that seek workers who are multi-skilled, literate, cooperative, creative, adaptable, independent and resourceful.

We are very proud of the interactions between older and younger children at Brandon Park; the younger children benefit from the positive models of older children, often aspiring to their levels of capability. At the same time, the older children rise to the expectations of the younger children and the teachers, being very responsible and having opportunities to lend and use their expertise.

These opportunities create an environment where students develop and build stronger social relationships, where students are encouraged to develop confidence by asking other peers for assistance and support.
